Basic 1vs1 Jester Guide

Introduction

This guide is primarily aimed at Free-to-Play players. Before we dive in, if you’re not yet level 60, we recommend checking out the Yo-Yo Acrobat guide. It’s crucial to follow that guide up to level 60. Once you reach level 60 and become a Jester, you can use your reskill from level 15. A common question for Jester players is how to distribute stat points and how to play the class effectively. This can be challenging because the Jester’s role evolves over time, especially with changes in attack speed, Critical Chance and other factors. We’ve tried to find a balanced approach that works well at most levels, but we’ll look at stat distribution last since it’s the most complex aspect. The rest, including equipment and skills, is fairly straightforward.

Weapons

Start with the Level 60 Guardian Yo-Yo (Attack Speed+15%, Critical Chance+15%), then progress to the Level 75 Historic Yo-Yo (Dex+7, STR+7, Critical Damage+28%). Skip a few Yo-Yos until you can use the Level 105 Legendary Golden Yo-Yo (Critical Damage+40%, and Critical Chance+15%), and eventually switch to the Level 120 Bloody Yo-Yo (Critical Damage+55%, STR+25, and Steal HP +0.8%). The reason is simple: the focus is on maximizing damage. You don’t need much HP unless you’re playing PvP or need to tank in certain situations like giant hunting. But in general, your goal is to deal as much damage as possible, which makes the Guardian, Historic, LG, and Bloody Yo-Yo the best choices.

The Lusaka’s Crystal Yo-Yo and Typhoon are basically a better version of the Legendary Golden Yo-Yo.

Lusaka’s Crystal Yo-Yo gives: Critical Damage +57~67%, STR +25~30, and Critical Chance +18~25%
Typhoon gives: Critical Damage +54~64%, STR +23~28, Critical Chance +16~23%

Both have a 20% Chance of Knock Back.

Currently the weapons are very expansive, not in the reach for free-to-play player to stick with the Legendary Golden Yoy-Yo or Bloody Yo-Yo

Sets

Deciding which set to take (Level 60-105)

Now, let’s talk about equipment sets. The first key point is that you don’t need a set until level 90 the Restra/ Rasra Set (Hit rate+15%, STR+10%, Critical Damage+30%). Personally, we’re not a fan of the Cruiser/Hyper Set, which is available at level 45. It’s a poor choice because it only provides 20% critical damage, which is useless at that level since no one has a high critical chance yet. This changes at level 65 for Jesters with the skill Critical Swing (maxed out 40% Critical Chance, and +10% Block Penetation), but even then, it’s not very beneficial.

Jesters struggle with attack speed and Critical Chance, and the Cruiser Set doesn’t help with either. It doesn’t provide the attack speed or Critical Chance that you desperately need, making it a bad set overall. Instead, we recommend using the Level 50-53 Rorend/Rorient set. These aren’t traditional sets but are part of the Clockworks (CW) armor pieces. The effects are much better: 15% attack speed, 10% critical chance, and 10% critical damage. You lose 10% critical damage but gain 15% attack speed and 10% critical chance, which is far more beneficial for a Jester.

This setup is ideal until level 89 or even 105. There’s no need to switch to Restra/ Rasra Set unless you want to. However, consider switching because, it gives +15% hitrate more Critical Damage (+30) and STR (+10). At level 90, you should have a Ringmaster who can grant Geburah Tiphreth (GT) buffs. Once you have GT buffs, you no longer need the 15% attack speed from the Rorend/Rorient Set, making the Rorend/Rorient Set less effective as it only provides 10% critical chance and 10% damage.

The Rorend/Rorient Set defense stats are still excellent, especially with the elemental defense bonuses, making it viable up to level 105. However, we still recommend switching at level 90 for better overall performance.

Next Set Neis/Nation (Level 105)

At level 105, the Neis/Nation set improve your attack speed +10% again. It also gives Critical Chance+15%, and Critical Damage+40%. The Jester’s equipment progression is a bit chaotic: you gain attack speed, then lose it, then gain it again. The main focus at this stage is on critical chance and critical damage, making this set significantly better than previous options. While you might lose some hit rate, the additional critical damage makes up for it, offering better overall stats and performance.

Next Set Nanenon/Nanex (Level 135)

At level 105, the Naneon/Nanex Set gets available. This set is the same as the previous one, but an upgraded version with 15% Attack Speed, 20% Critical Chance, 20 STR and 55% Critical Damage making it a must-have.

Final Set Fennith/Fennia (Level 135)

At level 150, the Fennith/Fennia Set gets available.  This set is the same as the previous one, but an upgraded version with 15% Attack Speed, 25% Critical Chance, 30 STR and 65% Critical Damage. Additionally, it has a 25% chance get the Prankster Escape Chance. Unfortunately, the set is currently verry expansive. So free-to-play player should definitely stick to the Nanenon/Nanex Set.

Sockets and Stat Distribution

When it comes to socketing and statting your gear, ideally, you’d want to have three STR and two DEX on each piece. However, this might not always be achievable, so you can adjust based on your current needs. If you find yourself lacking attack speed or critical chance, prioritize DEX. Remember, 10 DEX grants a Jester 4% critical chance and increases attack speed if you’re not yet at 100%. If you’re satisfied with your current stats and just want to push for more damage, focus on STR. A balanced combination of both is ideal.
2 statted versions can only be dropped by monsters. If you do it yourself with a Scroll of Strength or Scroll of Dexterity your goal would be +2-4 of either stat.

For sockets on your suit, aim for attack% boosts by using Lightning Card in your set.

For sockets on your weapon, aim for Wind Card (for Critical Chance + Attack Speed), or Thorn Card (for Critical Damage) depending on your general equipment. Critical Damage makes only sense when you get near 100% Critical Chance. If You are fare away from the 100% Critical Chance Fire Card (STR) would be another option.

Skill Points ("K")

At level 60, you’ll want to reset your skills with the Scroll you got from your first job change. The build is straightforward: max out Yo-Yo Mastery first, as it’s crucial for boosting your attack power. You can skip Perfect Block if you’re tight on skill points since it requires investing in multiple prerequisites, which aren’t as useful.

Focus on maxing out Critical Swing at level 65, which is a critical skill for increasing your critical chance significantly. Additionally, Enchant Poison and Enchant Blood are very similar skills with identical scaling and damage over time effects. Prioritize Enchant Poison first, then Critical Swing,

Finally, Enchant Absorb at level 70. While the damage-over-time effects may not drastically reduce kill times, Enchant Absorb can help you conserve food by restoring HP with each attack, which is a nice bonus.

Jewelry

For jewelry, the focus remains on STR and DEX, similar to other aspects of your build. We recommend starting with DEX-based jewelry because it’s generally cheaper, especially for Free-to-Play players. Arek Ring or Dexion Ring are more affordable options compared to STR rings, though this can vary. Starting with two Dexion +1 and two Mighteer +1 is a solid strategy.

As you progress, you can upgrade to Dexion +2 or even +3 as they provide significant boosts—30 DEX each, translating to 12% critical chance for your Jester. While +1 jewelry is sufficient for leveling up to at least level 105, upgrading as your budget allows is advisable.

Cloak

For cloaks, we recommend the Cloak of Precision, which provides an additional 8 DEX. Although it’s slightly less than the 10 DEX granted by Dexion Rings, it still offers a helpful boost to your critical rate, contributing to your overall performance.

Stat Points ("H")

There’s often a lot of debate about how much DEX to invest in, with recommendations ranging anywhere from 70 to 150 DEX. The truth is, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer because it heavily depends on various factors: the level of your buffs, how upgraded your equipment is, the upgrades of your jewelry, and whether you have a pet or not. These factors vary greatly between players—whether you’re a free-to-play player, using consumables, or have a strong support system behind you.

For simplicity, let’s focus on a standard scenario: you’re a new player with basic equipment. Assuming you don’t have the best buffs or gear, and you’re using a typical setup with a full INT Ringmaster Level 60 you get Cannon Ball with +26 DEX and Haste with +18% attack speed, at boost Attack Speed and Critical Chance.

For a level 75 Jester with average gear and buffs, we suggest investing 50 DEX in your stat points. This may seem low, but with the Rorend/Rorient Set providing attack speed and critical chance bonuses, along with two DEXION +1 rings and a Cloak of Precision (which adds 8 DEX), you’ll achieve 100% attack speed and a solid critical chance.

If you’re using this setup, the 50 DEX investment should work well throughout most of the leveling process. As you reach level 90, you’ll lose the 15% attack speed from the Rorient/Rorend Set but gain it back with the Ringmaster buff Geburah Tiphreth (GT) and better buffs like a higher-level Cannon Ball and Haste.

High-Level Considerations

As you advance, you may face new challenges, particularly with the Bloody Yo-Yo, which doesn’t offer critical chance bonuses like the Legendary Golden Yo-Yo. At this stage, you’ll need to consider how to make up for the lost critical chance. One option is to invest in a pet that boosts critical chance; even a poorly leveled A-Class pet can provide 15-20% critical chance, which is a significant boost.

Alternatively, you can upgrade your jewelry, moving from DEXION +1 to higher levels like +3 to regain the critical chance lost from switching Yo-Yos. The key is to continuously adapt your build as you progress, ensuring that you maintain a balance between attack speed and critical chance while maximizing damage.

In summary, starting with 50 DEX should serve you well through most levels. As you reach higher levels, you’ll need to adjust your build to compensate for changes in your equipment and maintain optimal performance.

Pets and Situational Considerations

When it comes to pets, the choice should be based on your specific situation. If you don’t have an issue with critical chance and have already addressed it through other means, a Critical damage Pet (King Crab Cage) would be ideal to maximize your damage output. On the other hand, if you’re struggling to maintain a high critical chance, or you’re unsure where your critical chance will come from, then a Critical chance Pet (Angel Cage) is the better option.

Another way to enhance your critical chance is through weapon sockets. You can socket DEX or Critical chance cards into your weapon, with critical chance generally being the more effective choice. However, it’s important to note that socketing cards into weapons can be quite expensive.

Consumables

In addition to pets and weapon sockets, consumables can also play a key role in optimizing your build. For instance, you can use potions that boost critical chance, critical damage, and attack speed to give you an edge in battle. These consumables can help fine-tune your stats and ensure that you’re always performing at your best, regardless of your current equipment or pet setup.
