Basic AoE Mercenary Guide

Table of Contents

Introduction

In Flyff Universe, Mercenaries gain access to an AoE skill that allows them to deal with multiple enemies simultaneously, similar to the Assist class. This skill becomes available at level 30, enabling Mercenaries to start AoE grinding early on. We’ll walk through this from the perspective of a new, free-to-play player with limited resources, as this is often where players need the most guidance.

If you already had your 2nd job change here are the guides for AoE Blade, and AoE Knight.

Stat Points ("H")

When it comes to allocating stat points, you have a few options. For safety, it’s recommended to go full STA (Stamina) until level 30. This approach ensures that you have enough defense and HP to survive. You might consider adding some STR (Strength), but it won’t make much of a difference early on. Another option is to balance your stats with a 50/50 distribution between STA and STR. This setup can give you more flexibility, depending on your playstyle and the challenges you face after level 30.

If you’re uncertain or playing without a Ringmaster support, the full STA build is the safest choice. However, if you have a support character or feel confident, a 50/50 build can work well. Avoid going full STR early on, as it will limit your ability to tank multiple enemies, which is essential for AoE grinding. A full STR build might allow you to fight a few mobs at once, but it won’t let you fully utilize your AoE potential.

Skill Points ("K")

Skill allocation for a Mercenary is somewhat challenging due to the limited number of skill points available. Your primary focus should be on maxing Slash for maximum 1on1 damage first. Special Hit is the AoE skill.

You must reach level 8 in Blindside, Keenwheel level 6, and at least level 4 in Slash before you can max Special Hit. This leaves you with very few skill points by level 30, especially if you’ve also invested in early skills like Keenwheel or Slash.

Given these constraints, you should decide early whether to prioritize Slash or Keenwheel. While Slash can be used directly from your skill bar, Keenwheel requires the action slot, which can overheat and become less effective in prolonged fights. This makes Slash a more reliable choice for continuous AoE grinding.

Once you’ve maxed Slash, before maxing the AoE skill Special Hit the next skills to focus on are Protection, not Empower Weapon, if you’re not planning to use elemental enhancements on your weapon, which can be resource-intensive, it’s better to stick with general buffs Smite Axe +Axe Mastery or Blazing Sword + Sword Mastery based on your weapon choice.

Weapons

As for which weapon to use, it’s entirely up to you—choose the one that provides the highest attack power. At level 30, consider using Entanale Sword. However, these are not essential, and their effects are not particularly suited for AoE grinding. Therefore, prioritize whichever weapon offers the best raw stats rather than hunting for specific gear.

Shields

When it comes to shields, it’s generally best to use green shields. These typically outperform NPC shields as they come with additional effects that NPC shields lack. For example, the added STR, DEX, and STA from green shields (Light, Battle, Fury, Heavy, Avalon Shield all stats +1~4) provide a small but useful boost to your stats, particularly STA. While these bonuses might not seem significant, they can make a difference in your overall performance. Therefore, it’s advisable to prioritize green shields whenever possible.

Jewelry

The choice of jewelry depends heavily on your support situation. If you’re a new character with minimal resources or without a Ringmaster to support you, it’s best to stick with more defensive options like Stam Ring+3 and Plug Earring +3. These will enhance your survivability, which is crucial when you’re still getting established. Additionally, a Gore Necklace +3.

However, if you have solid equipment and reliable support, you can switch to more offensive options like Vigor Ring+3 and Demol Earring+3. The decision should be based on your specific needs at the time—whether you require more HP or more damage. As you level up, +3 jewelry becomes more accessible, offering a nice boost, though it’s not a game-changer. Adjust your jewelry based on whether you need more survivability or more offensive power.

Important Assist Buffs for AoE Mercenary

For an AoE Mercenary, certain Assist buffs are crucial. Patience and Heap Up are essential as they directly improve your HP and defense, and Beef Up for more STR. After these, Cats Reflex becomes valuable as it boosts your evasion, making it easier to avoid hits. While Haste can speed up your attack rate, it’s not as critical for an AoE Mercenary but still useful.

You should focus primarily on Heap Up and Patience to ensure you can tank as many monsters as possible without dying. Cannon ball can be less important at lower levels, as the small DEX boost isn’t as beneficial. However, if you feel confident in your survivability, you can invest in Haste or Cannon ball earlier to enhance your offensive capabilities.

Sets

Finally, let’s talk about sets and armor. At level 15 Petal/Flower Set, the set you obtain reduces FP consumption, which is beneficial, especially if you’re focusing on skills like Slash. Even with a 50/50 build, using this set is worthwhile because it saves FP and provides decent defense. However, this set isn’t essential if you don’t have it—NPC gear will quickly become better as you level up.

At level 30, the Comet/Cylos set is similar, providing benefits like +15% Attack Speed for faster monster-pulling capabilities, but it’s not a necessity.

The level 45 Panggril/Stitch set is more useful as it reduces FP consumption by 30% and provides a significant STR+7 boost. This set offers better all-around stats and can be more beneficial as you level. However, once again, it’s not essential. The decision should be based on your DEF needs—use whatever gear offers the most defense.

At level 50-53, you can start considering the Shamutra/Shaentra set. These pieces, especially the boots, are usually quite affordable and offer +10% attack speed. The Shamuta/Shaentra suit, although rare and expensive, provides the highest DEF+50, and the set bonuses can significantly improve your tanking capabilities. Although the full set isn’t available until level 53, it’s well worth acquiring for the tough levels between 50 and 60. During these levels, the Shamutra/Shaentra set can make a noticeable difference, offering crucial survivability as you face increasingly difficult monsters.
